Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the use of tiny, sterile, stainless steel needles with the goal of regulating the chi (energy) of the body. By influencing this energetic system, the body can return to a place of balance.  In essence, acupuncture works to bring the body back to homeostasis - its natural state.   When the body functions correctly, symptoms improve and an overall sense of wellness results.  All needles are disposable.

Cupping

Cupping consists of applying suction to glass cups and placing them on specific areas of the body. The back is the most common area where cups are used. Cupping can be effective in treating a variety of conditions such as pain syndromes, relief from sore muscles and overwork, respiratory disorders (asthma and chronic cough or chronic bronchitis and colds) and more.

Electro-Acupuncture

Electro-acupuncture is a technique where mild electric current is applied to the needles. Electro-acupuncture is most effective for chronic pain, spasms and sprains, but can be used for many other conditions as well.

Acupressure

Acupressure uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and chi to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points.  Acupressure can be effective in helping relieve anxiety, headaches, eye strain, sinus problems, neck pain, backaches & tension due to stress.   The best use of acupressure's healing touch is for those who are concerned about needles.

Jin Shin Do

Jin Shin Do is a unique synthesis of ancient and modern techniques which balance the "natural" flow of energy in the body/mind. It is a technique of direct pressure on key points in the body.  It relates chronic tension or "armoring" to blockages along the energy pathways or meridians.  A firm but gentle finger pressure on selected acupoints in areas of tension is used to draw attention to and release muscular holding patterns, allowing the smooth, harmonious, balanced flow of energy through the body. Jin Shin Do is excellent for Stress relief and Helping with Anxiety.

Herbal Medicine

I maintain a small pharmacy of primarily Traditional Chinese Medical formulas.  These come in pill form.
Also available are products containing CBD & arnica, as I find them very effective.

Trigger Point or Dry Needling

What is "dry needling" and how is it different? (Hint: it isn't)
"Dry needling" is essentially trigger point acupuncture with a different name. It is a basic form of acupuncture needling that has gotten a lot of press in recent years as other professions see the value of acupuncture and want to expand their services to include needling, sometimes with as little as a weekend of training.  We often call it myofascial release.

In the acupuncture profession, we sometimes refer to "dry needling" as "ashi" acupuncture, as "ashi" translate as "ah, yes," as in "there it is." The "it" is a hyperirritable location in muscle or other connective tissue. In modern terms,  that's called a trigger point. Not all acupuncturists utilize dry needling techniques in their office, but any acupuncturist specializing in the treatment of pain will be well-versed in the techniques.

Only a full-trained acupuncturist has the training and skill to combine ancient theory and knowledge of the multi-systemic effects of acupuncture with a modern understanding of neuroanatomy and muscle physiology in the practice of trigger point needling. It's this systemic approach that sets true acupuncture apart from non-acupuncture practitioners who utilize a more basic style of trigger point needling.  Acupuncturists are your needle experts.

I have decades of experience in how to best combine ancient theories  and techniques with modern neuroanatomical and physiological understanding to bring you the best of both both worlds!
